Having Fun with DVD's

I've been having fun listening to our choir director talk about the new stuff he is doing with all of his music. He is in a band that has gone to New Orleans and performed. He was also in a military band in his younger days. He has loads of interesting stories. Anyway, he has been checking out AllDigitalguide.com to see reviews of DVD Region Free Software. He wants to be able to play any DVD in any software DVD player. These programs let you encode audio in just a few simple clicks. Another allows you to copy your CSS protected games and movies. My friend wants to be able to make comparisons of the best software programs by price and quality. AllDigitalguide.com is the best place to do that. Check it out for yourself so you can start having fun too!

Johnny Cash

I heard a song on the radio today that reminded me of the Johnny Cash movie that told the story of his way up the ladder to success. This song was called Big Fat Mouth or something like that. Johnny and his wife June sang it and it was so funny. I'll bet they had a ball recording it. They were good for each other.

I'm Bored

Does it seem like the kids are going to school later and later into the summer months? One of our school corporations ended school for the summer last Thursday and one ended yesterday, June 7. I wouldn't think much about it but it seems to me that they start earlier each year too. August 18 sounds so early. I think kids should get to have fun and not worry about school. We always went back to school on September 3rd. We said that was our Mom's birthday present because September 3rd is her birthday.

You know that summer has arrived when the kids start saying I'm bored. You have them signed up for swimming lessons and things like basketball camp but they still need to be encouraged to find something to do. I found a fun site online where you can make avatar type dolls and such so I thought I would take a look and see if I could give my friends help with new things for their kids to do. At the Doll Palace they have a section where kids can get creative. Coloring Pages allow them to use existing pictures and fill them with any color selected from the palette. They can choose a color and click an area on the picture that they would like to "fill".

Another cool feature that the kids can have fun with is uploading their own drawing and sharing the URL with their friends so they can all try to color their picture!

Now this means you will have to share your computer if they don't have their own but it is so worth it to see their minds working to create cool pictures. Plus they aren't bugging you!

They can get ideas by looking at pictures and drawings that others have done. It is possible for them to save the picture and print it so you can put it on the refrigerator.

It is free to register to use the site so there is no expense!

I hope this helps with the cry of boredom and have a great summer!

Sprucing Up

A huge grocery store in our town closed their doors and moved into a new building across the street. For years that building sat empty and the parking lot fell into a mess of potholes. It really made that end of town look bad.

Last fall a local gas station owner built on one corner of the lot and made the area so nice with landscaping and such. Now, a new eye clinic has built on another corner. Because it was starting to look so nice it attracted a gymnastic company who opened a business in part of the old grocery that had been sectioned off for smaller businesses. That corner is bustling now and looks so nice. It really looks nice now.

AdVolcano

Advertising on the internet is rapidly becoming the best way to sell a product or service. Using internet advertising from AdVolcano allows publishers to create innovative ad placements without the rules that stomp out creativity. This flexibility opens up new, otherwise un-monetized, ad inventory. In the end, publishers are supplementing their income, rather than replacing one revenue stream for another. This company was founded in 2004 by several aspiring entrepreneurs that shared an innate desire for success. The founders of AdVolcano set out to change the rules of internet advertising standards. The goal was simple; to give publishers the flexibility they deserve from an ad network and to provide full transparency to advertisers.

Their strategy for your business advertising is one you should put to use. Spend your advertising money creatively and receive more return by dealing with AdVolcano.

Where's Elsie?

My poor little Elsie got closed in the shed this morning! I knew she was not here when she normally comes running to get my left over cereal milk that I poor into the dogs dishes. I clank the spoon and she comes running. I was so afraid she had gotten out of the fence. She will go for miles and not come when you call her. I didn't even see her go in the shed when I went in there early this morning. I'm glad hubby thought to look in there because it is already hot here and she would have suffocated.

Run Your Own Advertising Network

I am a control freak. I want to have control over everything I do. In fact, it drives me crazy to not have control. I have things that I want to advertise but don't want to leave the details to someone else. Now, I don't have to! AdBrite Clone PHP Script is a new script that will allow me to run my own advertising network. I know what audience I want to target and can set up my own transparency to make ad successful. They are just starting to get their newsletter out and tweak the website but check it out and see what you think. I think it is going to be awesome.

Laughing A Lot

I have the best of the bestest friends on the internet. Julie is always willing to lend me an ear and help me figure things out. I have learned so much from her! and more than just stuff on the web. She knows some things about me too! LOL Like the time I lied to my mom about having sex! Muwahhahah! Only another PayPerPostie knows the lengths you will go to check for ops!

Spy Sweeper Is the Best!

I think that the worst time I had with spyware was when I could not stop things from popping up. My computer was possessed. I couldn't stop the windows from opening one after another. I had to unplug the computer to get it to shut off. I went to one of the message boards I chat at and one of the gurus there told my about Spy Sweeper. I downloaded it and have not had a bit of trouble since. It was so easy to install.

Many sites have spyware issued through them. You don't even know it is happening until your computer starts acting all wonky. Steps have been taken to combat spyware but Spyware grows more sophisticated every day. There's more of it, and it's more malicious than ever before.File sharing programs and swapping music, photos or other files are notorious avenues for spyware infection. It got to the point where I hated for the kids to download anything!

Now, I don't have to worry. Spy Sweeper gives me the protection needed. In fact it has what is called Smart Shield. Smart Shield blocks known and even emerging spyware threats! It is safe to browse!

Sleepy Time

My dogs make me so sleepy! It is their fault. They find a spot on the rug where the sun is shining down and get all cozy and warm and off they go to la la land. They snore! How am I supposed to stay awake with all that zzzing going on?

Learn About Debt

Dont' let debt make you depressed. That is an excuse I have heard many times as people complain about why they got into debt. I don't believe that excuse since finding an informative website that has so much information about debt.

The vicious circle of debt is described in an article at the Thriftyscot.co.uk website. This insightful article talks about how people think that stress causes people to turn to debt but studies have shown that in reality, emotional problems are caused more by stress and loneliness. Entitled,Debt May Not Be Responsible for Emotional Trauma, this article has changed the way I think about debt and it's causes. Debt may be depressing but something caused that depression and then the debt was taken on to try to heal the wound. I think this article should be taught in consumer classes in high school along with how to balance a check book.

I had never heard the term Debt-A-Holic until reading the article, Debtaholics Find Insane Reasons to Borrow. I was shocked to learn that people are getting loans to pay for plastic surgery!

The amount of people who have debt is increasing. Don't allow yourself to get swallowed up in debt but maintain a managable amount of debt. Many people are being duped into thinking a big house and fancy car make them successful. They buy a house they cannot afford and often wind up losing their home. Thrifty Scot has numerous articles that can help you understand debt and avoid the pitfalls of too much debt. If you see that you are already having financial difficulties, you might find that an IVA is in your best interest. An IVA stands for Individual Voluntary Arrangement, and this is a binding contract made between the borrower and his or her creditors with regards to repayment of a debt. When they were introduced IVAs were seen as an effective alternative to bankruptcy.

Thrifty Scot has a lot of good advice. Let them help you.

Finches Have Sonar

I put up the finch feeder and the finches have found it already! How do they know? Are they waiting in the neighbors yard watching to see when I will finally get that feeder out there? I'll bet they've been complaining about me. I have never been so slow at getting the feeders up. I hope they don't decide to dive bomb my head for being so slow.

You Can Make A Difference

How many times have we stood by as something happened that we didn't like. We didn't think we could do anything about the situation so we did nothing.

The fans of the hit tv show Jericho didn't sit by and let their show be cancelled by the network. CBS was deluged with calls, messages and shipments of nuts signifying viewer displeasure and is reconsidering its decision.

Way to go Jericho fans!

Pocket squares, which are making a big comeback, also make excellent Father's Day gifts. Belisi pocket squares are oversized, made with a lavish thick silk and hand-rolled on the border. Another reason ties are still a fresh gift idea is that men can wear ties that accessorize with their partner’s silk scarf, which she can wear tied around her neck or draped around her shoulders as a shawl, tied on her wrist, worn as a belt or handbag accessory or in her hair (a very hot trend right now).

Belisi was built on the philosophy that a tie or a scarf is more than an article of clothing—it completes your look. “There are plenty of Web sites where you can buy accessories but few where you feel like you’re a part of a fashion community,” affirms Peter Belisi of Belisi Fashions.

Girl Missing for 1 Year, Found

A 15-year-old girl missing for nearly a year was found Wednesday locked in a small hidden room under the staircase of a couple's home, police said. Two people who live at the home in West Hartford, Connecticut, were arrested. The girl probably was not kept in the secret room at all times, police said, but could not have unlocked the room from the inside. Based on her pale complexion, police speculated that she never went outside.

There is a lot left unsaid in this story but you can read what they have said at CNN online. I guess she had a history of running away but there was evidence that kept the police looking instead of just writing it off. Lucky for her, she was found. The article made no mention of her parents.

See The Police Live!

Win a New York fly-away to see The Police live. Check out the website for more information! The lucky winner will be entitled to a trip to New York City to see this great performance. It could be you!

In celebration of their recording debut, The Police celebrate their 30th anniversary! Their first double-disc police cd 'Best of' collection entitled, The Police (A&M/UMe)was released on June 5, 2007. The police cd is made of 28 songs from all their fabulous hits. They have picked the biggest hits from the band's five original studio albums. This cd includes their very first single, Fall Out. Can you believe that was a hit in 1977! It seems like yesterday that I was singing along to all their great songs. Do you remember Every Little Thing She Does is Magic? Maybe you and your hubby's favorite song was Walking On The Moon.

The Police revolutionized music with a sound that mixed jazz, punk and even a bit of reggae! Many bands have tried to duplicate the sound. To hear the intensity of their music and listen to a showcase of their musical ability, you only need to listen to my favorite song, Every Breath You Take. What an awesome song! Of course, many count Message In A Bottle as their favorite song.

Celebrate this fantastic new cd with me!

Delicious Ribs

Hubby made the most delicious ribs last night. His smoker bit the dust from so much use so he baked these in the oven. He didn't put them in until about 4 pm so we couldn't eat until 9 but they were worth the wait.

3 Tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
1 Tablespoon yellow mustard seeds
1 tablespoon whole coriander seeds
1 Tablespoon black peppercorns
4 cloves garlic

2 pounds beef ribs

Place sugar, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, peppercorns and garlic in blender or food processor; process until seeds and garlic are crushed. Rub beef with oil; pat on spice mixture. Season generously with salt.

This recipe is from the Kingsford briquet recipe book and is actually for grilling. Hubby put the ribs in a 9x13 baking pan and baked them at 325 for 4 hours.
They fell off the bone and had a wonderful flavor. (The pan is still soaking in the sink).

1408 Movie Will Get Ya!

If Stephen King weren't so successful with his talent, people would worry that he would be the next Jeffrey Dahmer. Luckily, his talent shines. Get it shines? LOL Sorry, but when I think of Stephen King I think of my favorite movie written by him, The Shining. Stephen King's mind works like no one elses. That is why you can't possibly believe you ever know what will happen next.

His newest movie, 1408 Movie, is no exception. I just watched the trailer and I am already wondering how John Cusak's character cannot know that the police are in the room with him if he is in that room. Waaahhhh. I have to see this movie!

Let me fill you in. John Cusak's character decides that he doesn't believe in the supernatural. When he is confronted about this he defends his belief. Many are upset with him because they counted on him being the one who believed and could face the doubters for them. Now he changed his position. He gets put into a position that he doesn't see as a problem because since he doesnt believe in the supernatural, he can't get hurt doing what they ask of him. He doesn't have any qualms about staying in the infamous room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel. At least he doesn't have any until things begin to happen. 1408 Movie is gonna get the hair up on the back of your neck! Just like my neck felt prickly when watching The Shining. Here's Johnny!

red rum,red rum, red rum Oops, didn't meant to bother you! Muwahhahaha!

A Great Read

I have several things I do every day and one of them is that I read over 100 blogs through Google reader. I am nosey and I admit it. I have gotten to know people so much better than if I just randomly read blogs. One blog that I have read is Justin Stanley's Web blog. He is always finding valuable information that can benefit so many readers. He blogs about good loans and good buys. Check out his blog!

World Wide Tour Announced

Have you heard the news??? The Police are beginning a world wide tour! I wonder if this will be like the ones during my teen years! OMG those were wild ones. Loud music and Boones Farm wine! Not that I would know of course.

Mixing a bit of reggae and jazz with a lot of rock and roll, they had a sound of their own. Many bands have patterned their sounds after the music of The Police. I personally think that Air Supply tried to sound like The Police. Each member of the band is so talented in their own right. The songs are constructed from delicate messages from things in each members lives or a particular band member has written a song that has special meaning to him. The guitar has that distinct sound yet is notoverpowering. You receive more of a sense of eerie washes of guitar. When the guitar is featured you better hang on! The talent of Mr. Summers is alive! The keyboard sinuous keyboard lines, that weave all throughout the music are planned recipes of chords and notes that bring the music together. The solid, repetitive bass figures, and the signature Stewart Copeland drum sound, all topped by Sting's voice moving through a wide range of pitch and sentiment are what make this band a legend.

The Police have so many great songs and they are compiled on their latest police cd. I cannot wait to get it! I've heard that they have changed the old version of Walking In Your Footsteps. I can't imagine how it could be better! Their Ghost In The Machine Tour in New Mexico was amazing. Of course that was in 1982 so I'm sure things are changed just with all the new technology that is available.
Look at this line up for the new police cd.

Online Scrapbook Service

I am having so much fun with theNewsRoom news. I just found information about an online scrapbooking site! My friend, Tina, and I have so many gadgets to use to scrapbook but we never seem to find time to use them. With digital scrapbooking, I think I can get more done. We shall see. In the mean time I plan on checking this out.

A New Information Source

As a blogger, I am always trying to find accurate and interesting news to keep my readers updated and in the know. I have discovered a great website that is helping me put relevant, timely news on my site. This site is so inclusive in the subjects covered. They keep up with the latest sports topics including hockey, soccer, baseball, cricket, football and of course, being a Hoosier in Indiana, I love getting the latest basketball news from The News Room.

The news garnered includes US, local and world coverage. I have found that by looking at this one site, I can get all the information I need to keep up with our ever changing world. The News Room includes videos that highlight the subjects they cover. They have encouraged me and other bloggers to embed these videos on our websites and share them with our readers. The many video and content choices afforded to me outstretch what I could possibly blog about! I would never finish typing if I tried to cover everything they offer.

For an example of the video and how up to date TheNewsRoom is watch this video that covers the democratic debate televised last night. It begins with Hillary Clinton:

TheNewsRoom offers bloggers the chance to be paid for distribution of top news and advertising! When you mash theNewsRoom content, they will couple it with a corresponding advertisement. Each time stories or feeds are viewed on my/your site, I/you will earn advertising revenue (see their rate card). It's that simple!

TheNewsRoom provides access to hundreds of thousands of fully licensed news stories that can be published, or 'mashed', on your site. Mashing is what they refer to as embedding content that is interesting to me, on my site. This content is from major content providers such as Associated Press (AP), Reuters, and Agence France-Press (AFP). In addition to the news subjects they cover, they also offer articles on health, politics and science. Their coverage of the entertainment arena would fill a blog on it's own.

I am excited about this new source of information and I hope you enjoy reading and watching the videos about subjects that I find interesting.

Oh! I almost forgot. You are welcome to put these videos onto your site. I get paid when people view them from your site too! It would be to your benefit to sign up
at The News Room yourself. It is very easy to do.

Etiquette or Just Dumb?

On my other blog, I mentioned that I am a stickler in regards to the rule of wearing white during a certain time of the year. I got to wondering where the rule started and why.

Here is what I found from Yahoo's Fletch. (I guess he is an expert on everything. LOL)

As with many customs and etiquette dictums, it's difficult to pin down the reason behind the prohibition against white after Labor Day. We searched on variations of "wear white after Labor Day" and sifted through the Etiquette and Fashion categories in the Yahoo! Directory. We managed to turn up a bit of information on the fashion dictate.

Originally, the rule was more along the lines of "Only wear white shoes between Memorial Day and Labor Day." Furthermore, it mainly applied to white pumps or dress shoes. White tennis shoes and off-white boots seem exempt, as are any shoes worn by a winter bride. "Winter white" clothing (e.g., cream-colored wool) is acceptable between Labor Day and Memorial Day too.

The only logical reasoning we could find cited temperature. Image consultant Nancy Penn suggests that because white reflects light and heat, wearing white would make you cooler in winter, and thus should be avoided. But others suggest the rule stems from a class issue. Acting Director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology Valerie Steele notes that in the late 19th century and the 1950s, more people were entering the middle classes. These nouveau-riche folks were often unaware of the standards of high society, so they were given specific codified rules to follow in order to fit in.

Several sites quoted a charming refrain about G.R.I.T.S. -- girls raised in the South. This bit of folklore states, "Southern girls know bad manners when they see them," and a clear sign of bad manners is wearing white shoes before Easter or after Labor Day. Because fashions in the American South can be a little more formal than elsewhere, perhaps the no-white-shoes rule came from south of the Mason-Dixon Line? Even Star Jones (an otherwise fashion-forward Southern lady) admits that white shoes "are for Easter Sunday and not the dead of winter."

We can only surmise that the point of this rule is to ensure that people only wear summer fashions during the actual summer months. The opposite probably applies as well, but people generally don't need to be reminded to avoid wearing a goose-down parka in 100-degree weather. If you live in a locale with summer temperatures year-round, we can't see the harm in wearing white shoes or a head-to-toe white outfit in October. And we promise not to tell Miss Manners.

They Are Dead

Don't you feel like they play up the importance of stars who have died? I know that they were probably very talented but the attention given to stars like Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and others is like they were saints. I don't mean to make less of their talent, like I said, but it wasn't as if they gave to society the way some others have. I think it is because they died at a young age and the mystery of what they could have been keeps their memory at the forefront. Do you agree?

Sunday Smile

Sometimes I want to bonk my husband on his head. He went and checked out a portable air conditioner for the new room but didn't buy it. I guess I should be glad he isn't one to just go out and spend money but when we went back today to buy it it was gone.

He had to drive to another town 40 minutes away and get one. I guess it is better that I was with him since I signed us up for a Home Depot credit card and saved 10% on the air conditioner. That was a savings of $60.00! I'm paying for the air conditioner with my PayPerPost money! I love that I can do that. I'm the one who can't wait for the air conditioner money to be saved up for but not bought til after June 15 til the taxes are paid. Whooo was that a run on sentence or what? LOL

Our poor doggies weren't let out in time and one of them peed on the rug in the bathroom. I forgive them since they had no other option. Then one of them peed on my bed! The doggie door was open and they could've gone outside. Not forgivable. I don't know which one did it though. So I am washing all the sheets and blankets. I usually can hang them outside but we are having big thunderstorms here today.
